About Me

Educational History:

I had the distinct pleasure of completing my 2nd undergraduate degree as the 1st Family Financial Planning graduate from Texas Tech University to do an international internship.  I spent three incredible months in New Zealand and returned for fifteen months to work for the top financial planning company in the country.

Degrees and Certifications:

B.B.A. Finance

B.S. Family Financial Planning

Certificate in Education with 30 + straight A Masters’ hours

Professional Development:

  • Learn Like a Pirate
  • When “Go to Your Room” Doesn’t Quite Seem Far Enough
  • Using Picture Books and Mini Lessons to Help Students Become Better Writers
  • Collaborate Smart
  • Social Studies: Planning Session with Vocabulary
  • Foundations of Language
  • TETN 2017 STAAR Acommodations
  • Building Strong Families
  • Think Through Math
  • Thinking Maps for Teachers of Special Education
  • Reading with Meaning: Teaching Comprehension in the Primary Grades
  • “Do Not Say They Cannot Hear Us”: THGC Interdisciplinary Workshop on Teaching the Holocaust
  • Reading to Learn in the Social Studies Classroom
  • SIOP Training, Improving Literacy Instruction
  • Foundations of Language, Aligned Assessments: From TEKS Resource System to Eduphoria

Current Position:

I started teaching at Oak Grove Elementary this year.  I teach Writing and American History to 131 fabulous 5th graders!!

Previous Position:

After returning from my working visa in Auckland, New Zealand, I taught for LISD.  Some of my 6th grade students are now parents, which is quite hard to believe.  My move to Colorado led to a career change and I ultimately became an Independent Catastrophe Insurance Adjuster during Hurricane Ike.

Being one of the only females in the industry definitely helped me realize that anyone can do anything if they use forethought and fortitude to replace fear with gumption. I did my own steep and high claims using my own rope, tying my own knots and climbing up to 4 story ladders.  Stepping off of the ladder and trusting your own knots on a 4 story 18/12 pitch steep roof is….  well, there are no real words for that moment.

This professional experience definitely allows me to bring something special to the classroom.  I believe the most unsuspecting student can be the one absorbing the most magnificent desire to achieve great things and may one day help people while realizing great heights and accomplishments.
